Orientation: Class Information
First-Year Students
All first-year students (students with less than 30 college transfer units) must register for one of the following first year reasoning courses: Foundations of Reasoning (FOR 101), Thinking Classically (HUM 100), Great Books I (GSHU 121) or Social Action and Justice I (SAAJ 100). Great Books and SAAJ are both four semester colloquiums. Students who go on to complete the four-course colloquium will receive credit for five courses. Some international students will take American Language and Culture (GSEN 199). The information you provide on the following NSO Registration will help us determine how to schedule your first semester classes. To learn more about these options, click here.
First-year students can check their schedule on WaveNet during New Student Orientation by accessing their Student Center. Click on the "Student Services" link in the upper right hand corner. Transfer students will register during NSO following academic counseling with their major division. Please know that each student's first semester class schedule is developed and reviewed by a team of advisors in consultation with related faculty members and academic and administrative offices. (Subsequent semester schedules are determined by the student in collaboration with an academic advisor).
In planning your first semester schedule, we are committed to placing you in the appropriate first term major and general education requirements. Every class in which we register you will fulfill one of those requirements based on the information you give us on the NSO Registration.
Please know that not all students are required to take certain classes in their first year of study. For example, a communications student does not need to take a math class in the first term, but someone pursuing a business program might. During NSO you will have the opportunity to change your schedule to include elective coursework or to reflect a change of major should the need arise.

We are delighted that you have chosen to transfer to Pepperdine and want you to know that you will register during NSO following academic counseling with your major division. Please bring an up-to-date transcript of your college work to NSO so that we will be able to get the most out of your advising and registration session.
