Live Audition Requirements

If you are participating in a live audition, either virtually or in-person, please review this page for instructions on what to prepare for your live audition or interview. 

Please note that all applicants are required to submit supplemental materials through the Pepperdine Application Portal. A live audition will not replace this requirement.

Music

Instrumental Performance (Major or Minor)

  • All students applying as a major or minor in our Instrumental Performance program are required to participate in a live audition, either in-person or virtually.
  • You will be asked to perform as part of your audition. Please come prepared to perform the pieces you submitted in your Fine Arts supplemental audition, though you may not be asked to play every piece. Please refer to the audition requirements for your specific instrument.
  • All required supplemental application materials must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to your live audition.
  • For live auditions, an accompanist can be provided upon request. Please submit all necessary sheet music to the Fine Arts Recruitment Office at least two weeks prior to your audition.
  • This live audition may involve a sight reading test.
  • Your audition will include an interview, where the faculty will ask you questions about your history with music, educational goals, etc. 
  • It is highly recommended that you complete the Music Fundamentals and Skills Assessment prior to your audition. If you cannot, you may complete it at a later date.

Vocal Performance (Major or Minor)

  • You will be asked to sing as part of your audition. Please come prepared to perform the pieces you submitted in your Fine Arts supplemental audition, though you may not be asked to sing every piece.
  • All required supplemental application materials must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to your live audition.
  • Your live audition will involve a tonal memory exercise. There is no prior preparation necessary to participate in this portion of the audition.
  • Your audition will include an interview, where the faculty will ask you questions about your history with music, educational goals, etc.
  • It is highly recommended that you complete the Music Fundamentals and Skills Assessment prior to your audition. If you cannot, you may complete it at a later date.

Music Composition (Major or Minor)

  • All Music Composition applicants are required to participate in the music program as either a vocal or instrumental performer. Please select an audition slot that corresponds to your primary performance medium, and refer to the instructions listed above for the appropriate category.

Theatre

Acting

  • Come prepared to perform the same monologues you submitted as part of your supplemental Fine Arts application. You may not be asked to perform all of your prepared pieces. You may also choose to perform a different piece than those previously submitted.
  • All required supplemental application materials must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to your live audition.
  • Your audition will include an interview, where the faculty will ask you questions about your history with theatre, educational goals, etc. 

Directing

  • Come prepared to perform the same monologues you submitted as part of your supplemental Fine Arts application. You may not be asked to perform all of your prepared pieces. You may also choose to perform a different piece than those previously submitted.
  • All required supplemental application materials must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to your live audition.
  • Your audition will include an interview, where the faculty will ask you questions about your history with theatre, educational goals, etc. 

Musical Theatre

  • Come prepared to perform the same monologues and songs you submitted as part of your supplemental Fine Arts application. You may not be asked to perform all of your prepared pieces. You may also choose to perform a different piece than those previously submitted.
  • All required supplemental application materials must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to your live audition.
  • For live auditions, an accompanist will be provided. Please bring all necessary sheet music with you.

  • Please come prepared to present a portfolio of your design work. For in-person auditions, this can include physical pieces if you are able to easily transport them with you.  
  • All required supplemental application materials must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to your live audition.
  • Your audition will include an interview, where the faculty will ask you questions about your history with theatre, educational goals, etc. 

Theatre & Screen Arts

  • Come prepared to perform the same monologues you submitted as part of your supplemental Fine Arts application. You may not be asked to perform all of your prepared pieces. You may also choose to perform a different piece than those previously submitted.
  • All required supplemental application materials must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to your live audition.
  • Your audition will include an interview, where the faculty will ask you questions about your history with theatre, educational goals, etc. 

Art

Studio Art Scholarship Consideration

  • Those who wish to be considered for additional scholarships from the Art department are encouraged to participate in a live portfolio review. 
    For in-person portfolio reviews, you may bring physical pieces such as painting and sculptures with you. You may also provide a digital slideshow or portfolio of your work which can be presented in-person.
  • For virtual portfolio reviews, please provide a digital slideshow or portfolio of your work which can be presented over Zoom.
  • Your portfolio review will include an interview, where the faculty will ask you questions about your history with art, educational goals, etc.
