What is New Student Orientation?

New Student Orientation (NSO) is a program intentionally designed for incoming students and their family members. The program will include information on academics, student activities, student services, living on campus, international programs, and much more. University administrators, faculty, staff, and upper-division students will be available throughout the program to answer all of your questions about college life. All new students are required to attend New Student Orientation.

When is New Student Orientation?

Student Dates:
International Students: Monday, August 20. Check in is 
Domestic Students: Tuesday, August 21. Your specific check in time will be communicated to you this summer.

Family Member Dates: Family members arrive with the student and can stay in a local hotel. Orientation ends for family members on Thursday, August 23, 3 PM.

Who Attends New Student Orientation?

NSO is designed for new students who intend to enroll at Seaver College and their parents or other family members. A majority of the students attending NSO will be accompanied by one or more parents; however, there will be several students attending without parents. In addition, there will be faculty members and selected upper-division students present to assist with academic advising and answer any questions.

Check in Location and Starting Time

NSO will take place for all students on the Seaver College Malibu campus. Check-in is in the RHO parking lot for all students. Once you check in, you will move into your residence hall if you are living on campus. Your Resident Advisor will be there to meet you when you arrive at your residence hall. Also, Orientation Leaders will assist you with moving in your belongings. After moving in, please relocate your car to one of the side streets or the Fieldhouse lot for parking during NSO. Please do not leave it in front of the residence hall or return to the RHO lot for parking. Orientation officially begins with the President's Welcome in the Firestone Fieldhouse at 7:15 PM. 

Registration Fees and Deadline

NSO is free for incoming Seaver students. The registration fee for parents is $150 per person (16 and over). This fee covers:

  • Meals during orientation (seven meals total)
  • Entrance to all orientation sessions and snack breaks
  • Orientation materials (orientation program guide, orientation app, Pepperdine t-shirt, name tag)

Fees do not include transportation to and from the airport or lodging for parents. The deadline for students registering for orientation is June 29, 2018. Family Members can register anytime.

Refund Policy

All NSO registration cancellations must be e-mailed at least one week before NSO begins. Refunds for parents will be available two weeks following the conclusion of the program. Questions may be directed to Student Activities at (310) 506-4201.
