Seaver Student Success Center
What are SSC's office hours?
During the academic year, our hours are:
- Monday - Thursday: 8 am - 10 pm
- Friday: 8 am - 5 pm
- Saturday: Closed
- Sunday: 5 pm - 9 pm
Where is the SSC located?
We are located at Pepperdine's Malibu campus, on the second floor of Payson Library at Seaver College.
Tutoring
What classes are offered?
We currently offer tutoring for undergraduate courses in the following divisions:
- Communication
- Fine Arts
- Humanities and Teacher Education
- International Studies and Languages.
- Natural Science
- Religion and Philosophy
- Social Science

Do I need to pay for tutoring?
No. We offer free tutoring for Seaver College students.
Do I need to make an appointment for tutoring?
No, appointments are not necessary. Simply stop by during the tutoring time listed on our website and check in at our front desk upon arrival.
Do I need to go exactly at the time tutoring starts?
Students may choose to drop-in to a session at any point during the designated time. Students are not guaranteed a space in a specific tutoring session, as all tutoring sessions operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Although every attempt will be made, for all students that check in for tutoring at the Student Success Center, there is no guarantee that every student will be able to partake in a given tutoring session due to space capacity guidelines.
Do I need to check out after tutoring?
Yes. Please check out by scanning your student ID card at our front desk before leaving the SSC.
What do I need to bring to tutoring?
Please bring your textbook, exams, and assignments that you may want to review.
Does the SSC offer private tutoring?
We do not offer private tutoring. The Student Success Center provides Seaver students free, group, peer-tutoring on a first-come, first-served basis.
How do I become a tutor?
The SSC hires tutors based on professor recommendation. Please review the courses we offer tutoring for on our website, and reach out to the department or faculty member teaching that course for a recommendation. Also, please send your resume to studentsuccesscenter@pepperdine.edu.
Can you share the tutors' contact information?
No. Per FERPA regulations, we do not share tutors' personal information unless we are given expressed permission from the tutors to do so.
Are you interested in hiring a Pepperdine student to tutor your student?
Please post your tutoring/hiring opportunity for Pepperdine students on Handshake, Pepperdine's approved student employment portal.
Workshops
Do you offer workshops?
Yes. We offer monthly workshops covering a variety of topics ranging from managing college stress to learning study strategies. We welcome you to visit our Calendar of Events page to see our upcoming workshops and sign-up forms.
Academic Coaching
What is Academic Coaching?
Academic coaching is an individualized and personalized coaching designed to help students overcome possible success barriers. Alongside your coach, you will explore your personal learning style and will learn strategies to help you study smarter, create better studying habits, take more effective notes, and set achievable goals.
Our academic coaches are prepared to find strategies that work best in accordance with your personality. As certified interpreters of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, they can assist you in understanding your personality preferences, the strength of those preferences, and how they might impact your college experience.

What other resources does the SSC offer?
We offer a resource library located in our office for the Pepperdine community. We hold books on various topics related to academic success. Please visit our front desk to check out a book or ask questions regarding these resources.
