The Speech Lab is a resource for COM 180 students and is designed to assist them with
the speech writing and presentation process. Students who go to the Speech Lab are
able to obtain feedback about their speech and make improvements before presenting
in class for a grade. The Speech Lab is located in study room 315B in Payson Library,
on the second floor.
Speech Lab Credit and Reservations
To receive full credit for attending Speech Lab, students must complete a full recitation of their speech. Students must also visit the Speech Lab at least one day before their speech is due. Failure to visit before 24 hours prior to the date of their speech will result in no credit. Students interested in reserving time for a brainstorming session will receive partial credit.
To be guaranteed a time slot, students are encouraged to reserve their spot at least one week in advance as slots fill up quickly. Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance and no shows will be reported to the course instructor.
Students attending the Speech Lab for their "required speech" should bring the following to their appointment:
- Their Speech
- Speech Instructions
- Speech Rubric
- Visual Aid (If Applicable)
Students are encouraged to visit the Speech Lab aside from their "required speech." Practicing for the sake of practicing is highly beneficial and professors will be made aware of students who come to the Speech Lab on their own.
Appointments can be scheduled through the Navigate app. For questions regarding how to make a reservation contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
