Alternate Pathways
We offer a pair of compelling alternatives for fulfilling Seaver Core requirements: The Great Books Colloquium and Social Action and Justice Colloquium.
Founded in 1986, The Great Books Colloquium is a four-course sequence where students read and discuss influential works from ancient Greece to the twentieth century, covering literature, philosophy, theology, politics, history, and psychology. The curriculum fosters critical thinking, writing, and communication skills through engaging with complex ideas and diverse perspectives, preparing students for college, careers, and lifelong learning. All Regents Scholars participate in the Great Books program.
The Social Action and Justice (SAAJ) Colloquium is a four-course sequence focused on exploring various social justice areas through historical, theoretical, and practical lenses. It aims to foster students' sense of vocation and empower them to create positive social change through service-learning and applying knowledge to real-world scenarios.
In both cases, students are able to satisfy five course requirements.
