Leadership

Testimonials

Adrianna Cañas

Leadership positions on campus not only teach responsibility and time management, but they also introduce you to future friends and mentors. As Student Government Association Class President, President of the First-Gen Club, and a student worker at the Office of Community Engagement and Service, I have broadened my Pepperdine experience while focusing on activities that matter to me. Being involved has allowed me to connect with a diverse group of people and develop skills that will benefit my future career. My leadership roles have shaped who I am today.

First-Generation Club

The first step in becoming a leader is getting involved on campus. The following resources provide opportunities for students to develop themselves outside of the classroom:

  • The Inter-Club Council sponsors clubs and organizations centered on student identities, academic and career interests, spiritual life, and more. Students can learn more about clubs and organizations on the Peppervine website or at various outreach events on campus.
  • The First-Generation Club is a community of first-gen students and allies who organize events and activities promoting first-gen success. Club leaders can be reached at peppfirstgen@gmail.com.
  • The Office of Community Engagement and Service provides opportunities for students to volunteer in surrounding communities and participate in service-based projects.
  • Seaver College offers summer and academic year research opportunities for students working with faculty members in their fields of study and across disciplines. Students interested in research should communicate directly with faculty members.
  • The First Wave Ambassador Program is a student leadership program for select first-gen, sophomore through senior students. Students can apply in the spring semester to serve the following year as leaders of the Pepperdine first-gen community. First Wave Ambassadors receive a $5,000 scholarship for the academic year.
  • After the first year of study, first-gen students with GPAs at or above 3.2 can apply for membership in Tri-Alpha, an organization recognizing academic excellence among first-generation college students.
