Our Master of Arts in American Studies provides students with an interdisciplinary study of U.S. economics, political science, history, literature, moral traditions, and elective courses involving the American experience. We welcome students who are working full-time to apply and excel by offering courses during the summers and in the evenings during the fall and spring terms.
Applicants for the American studies program will have usually completed an undergraduate major in one of the five basic disciplines of our American studies program: English, history, religion, or political science.
The Master of Arts in American studies is a 36-unit degree. The degree program consists of seven mandatory core courses and two elective courses.
Examinations and Final Requirements
Prior to finishing the program, each student must satisfactorily pass a comprehensive examination covering all areas of coursework in the program. Our capstone reading course assists students in integrating completed coursework and serving as preparation for the comprehensive exam.
