About Nationally Competitive Fellowships and Scholarships

Nationally competitive fellowships provide unique opportunities for study and travel. Additionally, they are highly selective, prestigious awards. The Fulbright Grant supports cultural immersion and research in one of 140 countries. Other fellowships provide financial support for graduate study in specific countries. The Marshall, Gates Cambridge and Rhodes scholarships support study in the United Kingdom. Some fellowships are specific to academic fields, such as the Goldwater Scholarship.  We have also included scholarships that apply to undergraduate academics, however you should consult Financial Assistance for general information on funding.

We urge you to begin thinking about these opportunities early in your academic career.  As you consider your academic interests and goals, you may find fellowships that match your objectives. As you familiarize yourself with the fellowships, consider what to do to become a strong candidate. Consult Applying where you will find information and advice for the process. The earlier you begin, the more time you have to develop a strong resume for future application.

As you consider these possibilities, we would also like for you to know about the support available. Begin the process by contacting Dr. Dana Dudley, Assistant Dean, Special Academic Programs (ext 6047 dana.dudley@pepperdine.edu).  From there, depending on the award, you will receive support and feedback from staff, faculty members, and previous applicants.  We host mock interviews, arrange application review sessions, and conduct workshops and information sessions.
