Student Success Center Celebrates New Services and Growth

In fall 2019, the Seaver College’s Student Success Center (SSC) saw record growth not only in services offered but also in student visits.

Made possible by a grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, the SSC launched a Quantitative Skills Initiative (QSI) to offer individualized tutoring for math and science. With the addition of a new professional tutor dedicated to QSI, the SSC was able to expand tutoring to daytime hours increasing accommodations for Seaver’s non-traditional student population including commuter students and veterans. With a convenient appointment-making process in the Navigate application, 56 QSI tutoring sessions were offered in its first month of operation.

With course-tutoring for more than 60 classes across all eight Seaver divisions, the SSC saw 1,636 visits in fall 2019, marking a substantial 26 percent increase from the previous year. As spring 2020 began on January 21, the SSC anticipates its course-tutoring to expand. Beyond tutoring, the SSC offers individualized academic coaching and will host monthly skills workshops on topics such as “Managing College Stress” and more.
