Seaver College's Job Shadow Day Continues Remotely

On Wednesday, March 25, 2020, the Seaver College Career Services office will continue the anticipated Job Shadow Day remotely after Pepperdine University transitioned all five of its schools to online learning in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The event connects current Seaver College students with alumni and friends of the University to explore different careers and industries.

As the University transitioned to remote instruction and services, the Seaver College Career Center worked to move their resources and events to online formats. The assistant director of programs and partnerships Maile Hetherington and interim industry specialist Judy Jacobs coordinated with Job Shadow Day’s 50 student participants and 33 hosts to get them on board with a remote shadow day.

“We’re so excited for students to connect with alumni and friends who want to support their career aspirations even during this transition to remote services and instruction,” says Hetherington.

Every student participant is carefully matched with a host based off of their application materials, major, career interests, and preferences. The day, which originally consisted of tours of the host’s company facilities, lunch, and participation in staff meetings, will now incorporate informational interviews, video conferencing, and more virtual experiences. Through the event students are able to explore a variety of industries including finance, healthcare, advertising, education, entertainment, human resources, hospitality, and more while navigating their future career options.
