About Waves Weekend

Established in 2010, Waves Weekend was created when Alumni Affairs and Student Activities combined several annual Pepperdine events into one unified celebration for the entire University community.  Every year, students' families and alumni journey to Malibu for a weekend dedicated to engaging with and reconnecting to the palpable Waves spirit. Pepperdine’s Malibu campus transforms into Madness Village, a fun and festive carnival-like experience, where attendees enjoy rides on the Ferris wheel, carnival games, and food trucks. Annual activities also include:

  • Blue & Orange Madness to jump-start the Waves basketball season
  • the Family and Alumni Picnic in Alumni Park overlooking the ocean
  • nostalgic class reunion celebrations
  • student and alumni networking opportunities
  • a morning mountain hike to the Cross
  • University Church of Christ and Waves Church worship services
  • meet and greets for families of current students
  • and more!

Waves Weekend provides the entire Pepperdine and Waves community with a weekend that is both action-packed and full of tradition. It offers a unique opportunity to strengthen the University from within, celebrating our shared connection and the life we build together.

Waves Weekend 2024 Highlights

Over 1,800 Pepperdine Waves, friends and family registered this year for a weekend of fun and fellowship! According to Hung Le, senior vice chancellor for alumni affairs, Waves Weekend showcases the University’s greatest qualities, fostering meaningful connections and lasting relationships. Here's what some Waves had to say:

“Alumni play a vital role in offering students advice, insights, and professional resources. Building connections with students can also benefit alumni, particularly when they’re looking for interns or employees for their businesses. A simple coffee meeting could open doors to unexpected opportunities.” —Kennedy Lindsey, Seaver College student

"I miss the Waves; I miss Pepperdine. It's wonderful to reconnect at these events. I come to feel inspired and to inspire younger generations. I enjoy reminiscing with alumni about our time as students and looking ahead to a bright future together." —Rita Sebastian (BS ‘22)

"I enjoy the people and the sense of community, along with the great location where alumni can gather for food and laughter. The key takeaway is building relationships, expanding networks, and meeting amazing people."
—Mario Inga (MBA ‘00)
