Biography

Raymond Bernal is a scholar who has a passion for human anatomy and its applications to health and movement. His contributions to sports medicine represent the pinnacle of his education, research, and clinical experience. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine from Pepperdine University, Ray pursued a Master of Science in Integrative Anatomical Sciences from the University of Southern California. While in his graduate studies at USC, he merged his interests in sports medicine and anatomy as he conducted research in a comparative neuromuscular and biomechanics laboratory. He plans to continue to contribute to science by investigating complex questions in anatomy and comparative biomechanics. In addition to conducting research and teaching Pepperdine’s undergraduate students, Ray has developed his pedagogy through various teaching roles at USC's medical, dental, and nurse anesthesia professional programs. Beyond research and academia, Ray's passion for sports medicine has led him to clinical practice as a sports sideline EMT. Here, he deepens his understanding of classroom concepts by assessing and treating sports-related injuries. While he finds joy in research and clinical practice, he is particularly excited to see the effect that his teaching has in the world of health and medicine as he teaches the next generation of clinicians, coaches, and healthcare professionals.
