Madeline Duhon
Biography
Madeline (Maddie) Duhon is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Pepperdine University. Prior to joining Pepperdine, she was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, where she also completed a PhD in Economics. Maddie is a development economist, pursuing a research agenda that aims to deepen our understanding of the causes and consequences of persistent poverty and inequality, primarily but not exclusively in low- and middle-income countries. Her research focuses on determinants of educational investments, human capital development, and the intergenerational transmission of poverty. For example, one research project explores a novel feature of inequality (disparities in parental assessments of child academic performance along socioeconomic lines) that could further reinforce inequality (through influencing educational investments and related outcomes). Another research project estimates the later-life and intergenerational impacts of an early life human capital intervention (childhood deworming) in Kenya. Maddie brings her passion for economics and for policy-oriented empirical research into the classroom, and enjoys mentoring and involving students in research.
