Kindalee "Kindy" Pfremmer De Long
Biography
Kindy De Long has served in various roles at Pepperdine for over 20 years. Since 2018, she has been Seaver College's associate dean of student and faculty development, overseeing initiatives such as the Center for Teaching Excellence, Student Success Center, Academic Resource and Support Specialists, new faculty orientation and mentoring, sabbaticals, the Faculty-Student Mentoring Program, community belonging, and academic technology and facilities.
De Long's research focuses on early Judaism and Christian origins, particularly the New Testament books of Luke and Acts. Her book Surprised by God: Praise Responses in the Narrative of Luke-Acts (De Gruyter, 2009) is the first comprehensive study of praise as an important narrative feature of Luke's two volumes. Her published work also includes studies of 4 Ezra, Tobit, Daniel, and Joseph and Aseneth. De Long’s current scholarship investigates Luke-Acts within second temple Judaism, politics in Luke-Acts, and how material culture illuminates Christian origins. She is writing the Luke volume for the Story of God Bible Commentary series and co-authoring the revised Luke volumes in the Word Biblical Commentary series, both for Zondervan Academic.
De Long is passionate about teaching and mentoring students, including guiding their research. Her courses include Religion Senior Seminar: Identity in Christ, the Book of Acts, Pauline Writings II, and Women in the Early Church. She regularly guest preaches and delivers invited lectures, some of which have been published. Her ministry focus includes service in churches in Thousand Oaks and Whittier, CA; South Bend, IN; and Nairobi, Kenya.
