Ho Fung Cheng
Biography
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Edmund discovered his love for chemistry during secondary school and studied abroad at University of Oxford. After graduating with MChem (First Class Honors) in 2016, he pursued his PhD at Northwestern University with Prof. Chad Mirkin. For his contributions in DNA-mediated assembly and coordination chemistry, he was awarded Northwestern’s Ryan Fellowship and International Institute for Nanotechnology’s Outstanding Researcher Award. In 2022, he moved to MIT as a postdoc. Working under Prof. Jeremiah Johnson, he developed a new method for the ambient storage of DNA and DNA-based data in degradable polymer networks. His research and community efforts were recognized by MIT School of Science’s 2024 Infinite Expansion Award. He was also selected as MIT’s 2024 Mentor Advocate Partnership Rookie of the Year, for his work in supporting equity.
Edmund is passionate about mentoring students. He is excited to bring his experiences and skills in teaching and research to Pepperdine.
