For junior or senior undergraduate or graduate students. Preferably, the internship period will last for twelve weeks at 20-40 hours per week, however this is flexible. Internships will be offered throughout the year. Hours worked beyond the designated hours per week are compensated at the rate of $8.50/hour. Students will become an integral part of the Health Quest staff utilizing skills, knowledge and leadership in the delivery of a health promotion program. Chevron's 12,000 sq. ft. Wellness Center includes various cardiovascular equipment, Cybex weight training equipment, aerobics classes and Health Promotion programs. Intern will gain experience in: computer skills, front desk operations, group exercise instruction, exercise floor supervision, wellness/fitness consultations, planning and implementing recreation activities and health promotion programs. The Heart Institute of the Desert is a state-of-the-art facility devoted to care of the heart. Bachelor's and Master's degree students in the field of exercise science are encouraged to apply. Interns will receive training in exercise prescription, nutrition, graded exercise testing, Phase II cardiac rehabilitation, facility supervision, blood pressure and EKG monitoring. There will also be an opportunity to view cardiac procedures. A $500.00 monthly stipend is available. The Health Promotion Group oversees a comprehensive program designed to reduce employee health risks, provide a corporate environment that supports positive health practices, and contribute to the development of employees' performance capability through optimal health and well-being. Responsibilities may include: assisting with strategic planning goals and operational objectives for program development, contributing to program implementation for the FitWorks facilities, exercise testing and exercise prescription, designing specific exercise routines and lifestyle practices to reduce health risks, assisting with implementation of regional athletic events, conducting daily operational tasks within the facility, contributing newsletter articles, and a major project. Offers a volunteer internship position for their corporate health promotion and fitness program. This is an opportunity for the student to gain experience working in an adult health and fitness program, and to apply knowledge learned in related college courses. This position involves supervising the two on-site Health and Fitness Centers, conducting fitness evaluations, and prescribing exercises for individuals. Basic facility upkeep, coordination of health awareness programs, and assistance in the Employee Services office will also be a part of the experience.
