Top Beaches Near Pepperdine University

As you drive North on the Pacific Coast Highway from Santa Monica, you’ll pass the iconic sign that reads, “Malibu: 21 Miles of Scenic Beauty.” Malibu beaches offer everything from world-class surf to serene coves, making it the perfect area for Pepperdine students to explore, unwind, and enjoy. So, let us help you to imagine Malibu beaches as the backdrop of your college experience with some of our favorite beaches near Pepperdine.

Malibu Road

Malibu Road

Malibu road isn’t really just one beach–it is a 2.5 mile stretch of sand with multiple access points, each with unique waves, crowds, and landscapes. The road begins behind Ralph's grocery market in Malibu (hence the nickname “Ralph’s beach”). From there, drive north until you find an access point that suits what you are looking for.

At the very end of the road, you will find what is often referred to as Pink House Beach, named for the pastel-colored home that sits nearby. This is a peaceful spot for long walks and relaxing with friends or family.

The best part? It is located minutes from campus and during the week there is plenty of free parking along the road!

Broad Beach/ Lechuza Beach

Broad Beach/ Lechuza Beach

Broad Beach road is another great stretch of tucked-away coastline. Boasting soft sand, rock formations, and plenty of room to spread out, Broad Beach and Lechuza Beach are located just north of Zuma Beach. Broad Beach is usually categorized as the first two access points on your left after you turn onto Broad Beach Road from the Pacific Coast Highway. It is a beach to relax, play Spikeball, or jump in the water.

If you continue up the road until the intersection with Bunnie Lane, you will find the access point for Lechuza Beach. In short: it’s amazing. A plant-covered walkway guides you to an opening of what feels like a hidden gem. The point that separates Lechuza from Broad Beach narrows out the crowds and even protects from the wind some of the time, offering a quiet escape from the other crowded beaches of Malibu.

Point Dume

Point Dume

Point Dume offers some of the best coastal views in Malibu. The bluff rises above the ocean, providing panoramics of the Pacific including, if you’re lucky, Catalina Island and migrating whales. A short trail from the parking area takes you to the top, where you can look out over the entire coastline.

Not only is it a favorite spot to watch the sunset, but also, if you’re feeling adventurous, there is an excellent climbing spot as well! The beach itself is perfect for exploring at low tide or for simply relaxing on the sand with friends. Whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed.

Escondido

Escondido

Escondido Beach is a hidden gem that many people drive past without realizing it is there. Access is tucked away between beachfront homes just east of Point Dume, giving it a more private feel.

The beach itself is long and relatively quiet, making it a nice spot for a peaceful walk along the water. Because of its location, the waves here are often calmer than at other Malibu beaches, which makes it a comfortable choice for swimming when conditions are safe.

Parking is limited to roadside spots, so arriving earlier in the day will help secure a space.

Before You Go

Take a second to check the tides, surf conditions, and UV ratings before heading out. It could save your day.

Living in Malibu means you have access to some of the best beaches in California. Whether you are chasing sunsets, taking a study break by the shore, or spending a Saturday with friends, these beaches are part of what makes the Pepperdine experience unforgettable!
