María Marcela Weiss
Biography
After receiving her BA in sports medicine from Pepperdine University, María spent her gap year before graduate school personal training and putting into practice what she learned from her degree — using exercise, specifically CrossFit, as a preventative lifestyle behavior against chronic disease. During her time at the University of Oregon, Maria conducted research on clinicians prescribing exercise to adolescents and what the limitations are. María continues to be interested on how exercise scientists can provide practical ways to help a greater population fight chronic diseases, such as metabolic syndrome and diabetes. María met her husband at Pepperdine, another sports medicine major and they live in Ventura, California where they enjoy spending time with their community, surfing, and cooking for friends.
