Self Registration

Self Registration Process Overview

Beginning in early July, new students are registered by Seaver Academic Advising in the following courses for the fall term:

  1. Major-specific courses (dependent on prerequisite qualification and/or availability)
  2. First year courses - Students are placed in either Foundations of Reasoning (FOR 101), Great Books (GSHU 121), Thinking Classically (HUM 100), Social Action and Justice Colloquium (SAAJ 100) or American Language and Culture (GSEN 199), depending on the preference they indicated on their NSO Wavenet Application and class availability.
  3. WAVES 100 - a 1-unit orientation course designed to assist new students in adapting to the demands of college life.

From there, students self-register in Seaver Core courses to fill their schedule. Advising recommends students enroll in 15-16 units their first semester. Due to practice commitments, athletes do not participate in self-registration and are enrolled in their full first-year schedule by the Athletics Department.

Self-Registration is broken into two registration blocks, typically occurring in the third and fourth weeks of July. Within each block, students are provided 2.5 days to register for their Core classes. From there, the Seaver Academic Advising team audits all course enrollments to ensure students are registered correctly. During and after self-registration, students are not permitted to drop any courses. Desired schedule changes must wait until the Friday of New Student Orientation, when students can work with Academic Advising and OneStop to add or drop classes.
