Seaver College Transitions to Online Instruction for Fall Semester

In messages shared with the Pepperdine University and Seaver College communities on July 22, 2020, President Jim Gash and Dean Michael Feltner announced that all fall semester courses will be conducted online through remote instruction. Additionally, the University announced the suspension of on-campus housing for the fall 2020 semester with a forthcoming exception for students experiencing extraordinary circumstances that require on-campus residency. The announcements were made in response to changing COVID-19 conditions and updated guidance from the State of California and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

“For as long as this situation lasts, we will walk alongside each student sharing your frustration and sense of loss,” shared Dean Feltner in his message to the Seaver College community.

In a shift from Dean Feltner’s previous July 9 message, which allowed for students to choose a course delivery modality that they preferred, the July 22 message stated the need to transition all instruction to online/remote delivery when classes begin on August 17, 2020. The latest announcement affirmed the University’s dedication to delivering a premier educational experience and a commitment to maintain small class sizes and foster student-faculty mentorship. The announcement also detailed guidance related to international programs, international students, tuition, and other critical information.

“Formed by its people—faculty, staff, administrators, regents, alumni, parents, friends, and, most importantly, each remarkable student—we are united in both mission and purpose,” said Dean Feltner. “No matter where we reside or what future challenges COVID-19 brings the world, Seaver College will remain unified as we fulfill our mission of service to the world.”
