In 1965, two years after the “Year-In-Europe” program began in Heidelberg, Pepperdine
purchased a permanent facility located 300 yards from the entrance of the Heidelberg
Castle. This spacious and beautiful villa was built in 1906 and renovated into dormitory
building when, in 1966, students moved into Pepperdine’s own facility named after
the late J.C. Moore, Jr., Pepperdine controller and spiritual father of the Heidelberg
program.
In 2016, thanks to the generosity of donors, Moore Haus went through a complete renovation
of the building, turning it into a gem that countless Pepperdine students will continue
to enjoy in years to come.
Whether you lived at Moore Haus as a student or it’s your first time visiting, you’ll enjoy touring this beautiful villa where so many students have called home for 60 years!

Heidelberg Castle towers majestically above the Neckar Valley and continues to enchant visitors from near and far.
This world-famous castle is the epitome of German romanticism and the walls tell of the destruction of the castle at the end of the 17th century, its slumber in the 18th century, and the beginning of tourism under the sign of the romanticism of the 19th century. Tour through the castle courtyard and the castle garden, immerse yourself in the colorful history of the world-famous structure.

Travel Tips
Guests are responsible for their individual travel arrangements to Germany and to Heidelberg. We recommend that you fly into Frankfurt as it is the most convenient airport.
- Taxi
When you arrive at the Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof (main train station), the most efficient way to get to Moore Haus is by taxi. Tell the driver, "Graimbergweg 10, bitte" (pronounced "Grime-berg-vague Tsane, Bit-a"). The taxi driver will drop you off at the front gate.
- By Train
If you fly into the Frankfurt airport, you have a choice of three ways to get to Heidelberg. The simplest, but most expensive, is to take a taxi. However, this may not be an unreasonable choice if the fare can be shared between three or four of you. A less expensive option is to travel to Heidelberg by train. A railway runs through the lower level of the airport. Trains to Mannheim are more frequent than those to Heidelberg and a shared taxi fare from Mannheim to Heidelberg is not out of the question. However, should you choose to continue to Heidelberg by train, there are also frequent connections from Mannheim directly to the Heidelberg main station.
- By Shuttle Bus
The most economical way to travel from the Frankfurt airport to Heidelberg is via Lufthansa shuttle. These shuttles leave the Frankfurt airport on the hour in the daytime. Shuttle buses depart outside the arrival area for Lufthansa flights from Terminal 1, section B (meeting point). Tickets must be purchased online to guarantee a seat on the bus. The bus will take you to the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Heidelberg, from which you can take a taxi to Moore Haus (See: "By Taxi" above).
In and Around Heidelberg
Pepperdine strives to facilitate a fantastic trip to Heidelberg for each of you! We wanted to offer you optional activities while you travel with us but we also understand that you want the chance to hang out with each other and make your own plans in smaller groups.
Planning activities on your own:
Seaver Alumni Relations recommends you visit the Heidelberg Marketing GmbH website for tourist information and activities. Explore activities to plan on your own and
have the ability to book some of these activities directly with Heidelberg Marketing
GmbH! If this page comes up in German, simply click the DOWN ARROW on the top right
beside "DE" and change the view to "EN" (English)
FAQ:
We recommend flying into Frankfurt airport, as it is closest to Heidelberg. Transportation to and in Heidelberg is easily accomplished by taxi, train, and shuttle bus. View travel information on this site.
We have had success with this trip booking local events through "Heidelberg Marketing GmbH." If you and a group of friends are interested in a group or individal activity, visit "Heidelberg Marketing GmbH." At the top right of your screen you can click the down arrow for the site in English.
- Lightweight Clothing: Opt for light, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen to keep cool during the day. Pack t-shirts, dresses, shorts, and light trousers to stay comfortable in the warm summer temperatures.
- Layer Up for Evenings: Even though days are warm, evenings can get a bit cooler. Carrying a lightweight jacket, sweater, or shawl is advisable for those breezy summer nights.
- Comfortable Footwear: Whether you're walking on the cobbled streets of historic towns or hiking in the beautiful surroundings, comfortable shoes are a must. Think about packing a pair of stylish yet comfy sandals, sneakers, or walking shoes.
- Rain Gear: Summer showers can pop up unexpectedly. so it's wise to always carry a small, foldable umbrella or light rain jacket. Waterproof shoes can also come in handy on rainy days. Check out this "Ultimate Packing list for Germany" for more tips.
