James Lee

Biography

Originally from the Boston area, James Yui Lee received his bachelor's degree in mathematics, economics, and statistics from the University of Chicago. He then worked as a research associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond for two years before starting his PhD in economics at the University of California, Los Angeles.

James' research focuses on the economics of higher education - specifically the transfer pathway from community college to four-year university programs. This topic is driven by his passion for teaching college students and finding ways to improve the college experience.

Outside of academia, James leads a Bible study small group for college students at his church. He speaks English and some Cantonese and Mandarin. When he is not working, he is exploring the Los Angeles food scene or relaxing at the beach.
