Faculty and Staff Dining in The Caf

Student Enrichment Fund

One thing that makes Pepperdine such a special place is the personal connections students maintain with faculty and staff. To support these connections, Pepperdine offers two programs  to share a meal with students. The purpose is to cultivate community, promote a sense of belonging, and foster the student educational experience beyond the classroom. The first program, Dine with a Student, is specific to Seaver College students dining with a Seaver faculty or staff member in our dining facilities. The second program, Student Home Entertainment, is available to all Pepperdine faculty and staff with a group of students in a home environment. For questions on these programs, please contact the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs at 310.506.4472.

Dine with a Student

The Dine with a Student program provides a meal to any Seaver faculty or staff member dining with a Seaver student. The meal voucher can be used at any of our dining facilities on campus. To assist in careful stewardship of the funds, the following guidelines have been established:

  • The dine with a student meal voucher has a maximum value of $18. It is a one-time use card and is surrendered to the cashier at the time of payment.
  • The meal voucher must be used while dining one-on-one with a Seaver student, and may be redeemed at any dining facility on campus.
  • The meal voucher is designed to be used for both the student's and the faculty or staff member’s meals. Food purchases over $18 must be covered by the faculty or staff member.
  • Seaver faculty, staff, and students may only use this program once per week. This program is available when classes are in session.
  • Meal vouchers can be obtained at the reception desk of the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs located in Suite 210 of the Tyler Campus Center. The faculty or staff member and students must present a Pepperdine CWID and sign their name to obtain a dining voucher.

This program cannot be used with student spouses or relatives and should only be used with a student and a staff or faculty member if they are sitting down to share a meal.

Additionally, as funds are limited, a request for a voucher may be denied if it is determined that the requesters' intentions do not meet the spirit of the program.

Student Home Entertainment

This program encourages faculty and staff to entertain students in their homes for a social meal. To assist in budgeting and utilizing the funds, the following guidelines have been established. Seaver students dining at a faculty member's house

  • The program is available to full-time and adjunct faculty and full-time University employees. The spirit of the program lends itself best to an afternoon or evening shared with a small number of students (25 or less) in a home. A restaurant setting is not considered appropriate for this program.
  • A reception with more than 25 students is more appropriately a division or department expense. The home event should be social in nature and not simply the relocation of a regularly scheduled class or activity.
  • Individuals will be reimbursed for actual food expenditures with a maximum of $8 per student in attendance. Reimbursement is based on the number of students who sign up or RSVP "yes" to your invitation, and does not  include the family or guests of the faculty or staff member.
  • Since funding for the program is limited, the maximum amount that participants can be reimbursed per event is $200. Faculty and staff are eligible to request reimbursement up to three (3) times a semester.

Following the event, the faculty or staff member should send a reimbursement memo to Beverly Wright and Lydia Folkerts, within ten (10) business days of the event and include the following:

  • Host(s) name
  • List of student names and CWIDs who RSVP to the event
  • Date and location of the event
  • Expenses (scan and attach original itemized receipts)

A Special Provision for the School of Law

Paul Caron and students eating around a dining room tableFaculty at the Caruso School of Law teaching large first-year law classes of up to 70 students may use the Student Home Entertainment program for entertaining students in a professor's home. Their section faculty must be present to ensure that the student-faculty ratio is no more than 25:1. Individuals will be reimbursed at the rate of $8 per student with a maximum amount of $560 per event. Following the event, a list of faculty and students in attendance must be submitted with a reimbursement memo, as outlined above.
