From its beginning, Pepperdine has included regular assemblies where students gather to grow in faith, hear engaging speakers, and learn more about how they can make a difference in this world through purpose, service, and leadership. Convocation programs are the contemporary connection to this integral aspect of Pepperdine's Christian mission. Each semester, full-time Seaver undergraduate students are automatically enrolled into Seaver 200, the Convocation Program. Scanned attendance at recognized Convocations counts towards a letter grade in which students receive one half unit of academic credit each semester, totaling 4 units by graduation. Students can earn up to an "A" letter grade for attending 14 programs (commonly referred to as convocation credits) per semester.
There are many ways to participate in the Convocation Program! Come worship with us on Wednesday mornings at 10am during Wednesday Chapel, lead or participate in a Club Convo discussion group focused on a particular Christian topic or issue, sign up for Spiritual Mentoring between a faculty/staff member and a student to converse with one another about life and faith, and host or attend one of our many other Alternative Events. Check our our website for more information!
All full-time students are enrolled in SEAVER 200 "Convocation Series" during each fall and spring semester that they attend Seaver College. SEAVER 200 carries ½ unit of credit for each semester, with a letter grade assigned based on the number of convocation programs that a student elects to attend during that semester. This applies to every regular semester of a student's attendance, up to, but not exceeding, 8 semesters. The maximum number of SEAVER 200 credits that can be earned is 8 x ½ = 4 units. SEAVER 200 does not count toward the 128 units required for graduation, but the grade earned applies to the student's GPA..
