Biography

Shanna Waddell Colbert received her MFA in drawing and painting from Temple University, Tyler School of Art and her BFA in drawing and painting from California State University, Long Beach. She has taught undergraduate art courses at Temple, Tyler School of Art and Pepperdine University as well as graduate studies at The University of the Arts. She works mostly on large scale painting depicting subjects of false utopian aspirations in people groups and individuals. Solo and two person exhibitions include Thomas Erben Galley, New York, Galerie La Crois, Art Center College of Design, Ms. Barbers, Los Angeles, and Tower Projects, Philadelphia to name a few. Noted group exhibitions include Torrance Art Museum, University of the Arts, Itd Los Angels, Crane Arts, Philadelphia, and Air Plane Gallery, New York. Besides exhibitng and teaching, Waddell Colbert has curated exhibitions with POST, Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach Arts Center, Bannerette, New York, and FJORD, Philadelphia. Karen Rosenberg of the New York Times described Waddell Colbert as "post expressionist, twitchy, unsettleted qualities, with corrupted sterile and spiritual imgaery."
