Dr. Allison's research has focused on sustainability efforts in agriculture and food processing. Her graduate work investigated the recycling and valorization of California food processing wastes to reduce landfill and offset fossil fuel consumption. As a postdoc, she studied the efficacy of soil biosolarization as an alternative to chemical fumigation for pest control, as well as bioremediation of fumigated soils. Coming from a diverse scientific background, Dr. Allison is fascinated by the interdisciplinary nature of food science and nutrition and strives to help students make those connections and apply them in the science classroom and beyond.
