  • Masters in Theological Studies, Texas Christian University, 2012
  • PhD in Religious and Theological Studies, University of Denver

Cari is studying Religion and Social Change in the joint Ph.D. program at the Iliff School of Theology and the University of Denver. Her work resides at the crossroads of social ethics, postcolonial theory, Latino/a studies, adolescent development and public education. Specifically, Cari's dissertation focuses on the ways Latino/a youth negotiate life on the U.S. Mexico border, especially in the context of the colonized classroom and the Christian church. Of particular interest are the "survival narratives" Latino/a youth receive about how to survive and succeed in the U.S.
