Residential Advisor Position
Responsibilities

The Washington, D.C. Internship Program Office believes it is imperative to provide a living environment in Washington, D.C. that is consistent with the values and expectations maintained on the Malibu campus. However, please understand that the D.C. living experience will be different, so ultimately your specific job-duties and response protocols may differ according to the management style of the program's director.
Only Pepperdine Seaver Undergraduates may apply. As an employee of Pepperdine University, the Resident Advisors (RA) is expected to consistently support the policies and ideals of Pepperdine University and the Washington, D.C. Program evidenced through the following:
- Be mindful of the position of leadership held among peers. The RAs should consider their impact on the moral and spiritual development of other students by evidencing good character and professional integrity; attending class regularly, exercising responsibility concerning issues of obscenity, violence, vandalism, prejudice, discrimination, racism, dishonesty, promiscuity, substance abuse, illegal activity etc.
- Inform residents of the policies, procedures, services and events of the university.
- Maintain order, enforce regulations and document all irregularities and/or violations of policies observed in the position.
- Maintain a strict code of confidentiality regarding all information observed or obtained within the parameters of the position.
- Provide support and counsel for students as needed, referring students to the director or proper contact person.
- Report and verify illness; direct emergency cases to the director and manager immediately.
- Be aware and report nonresident guests within the residential community. Communicate appropriate registration procedures and/or initiate dialog to determine purpose for visit.
- Report maintenance and cleanliness concerns to apartment contact person or director.
- Meet with director and program manager to discuss program issues.
- Respond in a timely manner to requests made by the director and manager.
- Attend all training periods in their entirety.
- Be accessible to all students through some form of media (email/cell).
- Have a general knowledge of Washington D.C.
- Report and verify any travel plans of the students.
- Plan group functions to facilitate positive group interactions.
- Develop a monthly newsletter for students.
- Meet with residents on a regular basis to build community among the group.
- The RA should be aware and sensitive to any needs in the residential community. The RA should strive to maintain a helpful atmosphere and improve the quality of life in the residential community. Other duties not outlined above may be assigned in order to meet the needs and goals of the community.
Compensation
Fall and Spring Semesters
$800 stipend for Fall & Spring Semester plus round trip airfare to DC (up to $350). Ground transportation not included.
Summer
$800 stipend for Summer Semester plus round trip airfare to DC (up to $350).
Ground transportation not included.
