Network Access
Fast Wired Network
Each residential room is equipped with one network port per
student that provides a fast wired Ethernet connection to the
Pepperdine University network and the Internet. In order to connect
a computer in the residences, each computer will need 10baseT Ethernet
capabilities, either built in or as part of an add-on card. To
provide better security, wireless network access is not available in
residential rooms.
Wireless Network
Pepperdine University has excellent wireless Internet connectivity
throughout the public spaces and classrooms on campus. The wireless
network gives students the freedom to move around the campus with a
wireless notebook computer, while maintaining an active Internet
connection. To access the wireless network with a
laptop requires an 802.11b Wireless (Wi-Fi) card. Both of these
products are available through the Computer Store. Please note that some
Dell and Apple wireless notebook computers with internal wireless
cards might have trouble receiving an optimal wireless signal in some
locations of the campus due to the limitations of the built in hardware.
Connecting your Computer
For assistance getting a computer connected upon arrive on campus,
Information Technology will be hosting a multi-day event during the
New Student Orientation. Students will be able to stop by the
TechCheck location for walk-in assistance or laptop drop-offs. Signs
will be posted for the TechCheck location for student convenience.
Please check the New Student Orientation schedule for TechCheck
dates and times.
