Improving Convocation
What did you think of this week’s Convo?

Adding a program to the Convocation Series

The main purpose of the Convocation Series is to affirm Christian faith and values. Programs in the Convocation Series provide various opportunities to hear and discuss Christian perspectives on personal and contemporary issues as well as provide avenues for Christian worship. Convocations also provide opportunities to build community and challenge students to live a life of purpose, service, and leadership.

The desired student outcomes of the Convocation program include:

1) An increased understanding of the basic tenets and ethical implications of the Christian faith.
2) An increased understanding of Christian perspectives on personal and contemporary issues.
3) Spiritual growth through Christian worship.
4) A greater sense of community involvement.

Alternative programs in the Convocation Series must:

Have a clear spiritual development objective that is the main focus of the program. The program must present a Christian perspective on the topic or address an issue related to helping students develop Christian faith. Programs must:

1) Be sponsored by a University department or student organization.

2) Be open to all Seaver students.

3) Be free of charge.

4) Be at least 30 minutes.

5) Not occur at the same time or on the same evening as another program in the Convocation Series.

To apply:

Written program proposals must be sent to the Convocation Office at least one month prior to the program in order to allow time for review by the Convocation office. A student organization may not sponsor more than one program per semester.
