Friends and Alumni
Opportunities
Career Advantage
Friends and Alumni now have another opportunity to be involved in
the career development of current Seaver students by participating
in Career Advantage, a program that allows professionals to
volunteer their time and expertise to current students who wish to
job shadow, have an informational interview, or even have lunch and
learn more about a field of their interest. Become a resource to
students by creating a searchable
profile (tips). You decide how often you are
contacted, and all your contact information is kept confidential
until you are ready to be contacted.

*IMPORTANT ITEMS TO NOTE*
Creating a profile in Career Advantage will not update your record
with your alma mater. Please help us keep in touch with you by
updating your information with the
Pepperdine University Alumni
Association.
Pepperdine University is planning to launch a University-wide
career support tool for students and alumni from all five schools.
Identifying and implementing this program will take time. What we
want to offer to you today is an interim chance to build meaningful
relationships and offer career advice/opportunities to those who need
it most. Every attempt will be made to make the transfer to the
upcoming University-wide career support tool as seamless as possible.
As a benefit of your involvement, you will be the first to know when
this new tool will launch!
Ways to be Involved
Take a Wave to Lunch is a program that connects students
with alumni and friends of Pepperdine University with the intention
of creating a business meeting over a meal to discuss the student’s
career of interest. Alumni and friends of Pepperdine agree to be
contacted by a designated number of students during a calendar year,
which is determined when registering as a Career Advantage volunteer.
Informational Interviews give students the opportunity to
learn about particular companies and organizations and the various
positions available within them. Students are encouraged to use these
interview opportunities to talk to employers about future positions
within the company/organization and to submit resumes for
consideration.
Job Shadowing provides students with the opportunity to
shadow a professional in a particular career field for a few hours
and to learn about the professional’s job role and organization.
Career Roundtables provide students with the opportunity to
gather insight and advice from successful people in various career
fields. These programs are offered to students during the fall and
spring semester. Panelists are invited to share personal insight
about their chosen profession/career path and to participate in a Q &
A session with the students.
Mock Interviews are designed to prepare students for those
all-important job and internship interviews. Interviewers assist in
conducting interviews and providing constructive feedback to student
interviewees.
Dinner Guest Speaker Series is an annual event at which one
or two keynote speakers are invited to provide general career
advice/motivation at a dinner attended by 30 students with a variety
of majors and career goals.
Phone Interviews and/or Career Advisement provides
interested students with the opportunity to connect with alumni or
friends of Pepperdine who are willing to interview and/or speak to
them about a particular career path or profession. Students are able
to gain knowledge into particular fields of interest and further
develop professional interaction with those currently in their field
of interest.
