Sponsored by the Seaver Board of Visitors
Mission
Statement:
The mission of
the Seaver College Career Action Project is to assist students in
the self-study and career exploration process, and to prepare them
for the social and functional realities of the workplace.
Background:
The Seaver College Career Center and the Career Action Project
The Seaver College Career Center has been assisting students with
their career-related needs since 1984. In an effort to expand already
existing services, the Seaver Board of Visitors commissioned a team
of its members, the Career Advisory Board, to work in conjunction
with the Career Center staff to develop a plan that would identify
and address unfulfilled needs while enhancing the relationships of
SBOV members and other friends of the University with Pepperdine
students. From this effort, the Career Action Project was born. The
Career Action Project includes several programs and services that
target various populations and addresses self-assessment, career
exploration, preparation and development needs.
Components:
Part I of the Career Action Project is devoted to freshman intake,
self-study and career exploration and offers the services necessary
to provide a comprehensive and effective self study and career
exploration program for Seaver students.

The goal of the program is to help students understand and prepare
for the social and functional realities of the workplace. The
program’s curriculum helps to close the gap between where students
are now and where they need to be in their career development, and
focuses on portable professional skill development, professional
polish and savvy; business etiquette; and awareness of professional
expectations.
Program Structure:
- Kickoff Weekend: Held each September, introduction to the program and the coaches, and includes sessions on
how to get the most out of your coaching experiences, the MBTI Career
Assessment, and Etiquette Lunch.
- General Sessions: Monthly meetings which facilitate career development in both
large group meetings and team interactions. Full attendance is
mandatory.
- Individual Sessions: Each month there is an additional
required contact between students and their coach. These
interactions can be through email, telephone contact, or
face-to-face interaction and are arranged independently between the
participant and their coach.
