Seaver Parents Program

Announcements

Greetings to all Seaver Parents!

As the Parents Program reflects back on this past semester, we are overjoyed with the number of parent volunteers who gave of their time to help represent Pepperdine at several events. Below you will see a summary of the many activities that took place this year. We encourage you to take part in something happening in your own hometown this year--whether it is an afternoon tea with fellow moms, an admissions event, or an alumni event--you are all part of the Pepperdine family, and for that we are so grateful.

Admission Information Sessions

Dozens of Seaver Parents Council members came ready and willing to help support Pepperdine's Office of Admission as they hosted annual information sessions in 18 cities across America. The Office of Admission depends on current parents and alumni to spread the word about their own experiences at Pepperdine and give prospective students and parents a bit of insight into the University. Our Seaver parent volunteers from the Outreach Committee did a wonderful job welcoming and introducing the prospective students and their families in their area into the Pepperdine family. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to each parent that played such an important role in these sessions.

Many thanks to: Candace Overlie, Sue Schmeling, Betty Snow, Marie Trentacost, Sally Schmidt, Denise Dildine, Kent Harmston, Betty Chandler, Karen Diedrich, Bill Diedrich, Phyllis Grant, Dawn Hooker, Sherry Carter Tim Taylor, Royce Prude, Kim Jones, Rick Jones, Cindy Garrett, Mary Ellen Adams, Dennis Adams, Dennis Sullivan, Cindy Torjensen, Steve Hoff, Nancy Hoff, Rick Jacobs, Trish Jacobs, Hsui Ching Chang, Jana Cashin, Nancy McMahon, Tom McMahon, Lee Jones, Deborah Jones, Claudio Chiuchiarelli, Joanette Chiuchiarelli, Debra Barris, Mike Barris, Mary Smith, Bob Lundin, Rosie Lundin, Laverne Parker, Rich Bartell, Dan Cardell, Ann Marie Cardell, Beth Johnson, LaNese Marshall, Susan Huston, Leslie Fay, Rebecca Bloch-Lopez, Beth Dennard, Ann Parker, Dick Parker, Reed Reichert, Pam Reichert, Lambert Bourgo, Rhonda Bourgo, Tarianne Cotton, Guy Cotton, Skip Horvath, Toni Horvath, Jon Ostertag, Belinda Ostertag, Tom Elston, Janice Elston, Robynne Rose-Haymer, Marty Miller, Sara Franscioni, Hal Franscioni, Chris Cole, Carl Varner, Linda Varner, Paul Lowber, Linda Lowber, Grace Snyder, Judy Ramento, Carl Johnson, and Sybel Johnson.

Wave Classic Golf Tournament

Wave Classic 2006

For more than a decade, the Pepperdine Wave Classic Golf Tournament at Sherwood Country Club has provided support for student scholarships, academic enrichment, career preparation programs, and the men's and women's golf teams. Last year marked $1 million plus in total funds raised!

It is our pleasure to extend a special invitation to you to join us for the Pepperdine Wave Classic Golf Tournament, taking place on Monday, November 9, 2009. There are several ways that you can participate in the tournament: as a player, a sponsor, or an auction donor. During these challenging economic times we are offering our Gold Sponsorship, which includes a foursome, at the reduced cost of $5,500. In addition to the tournament, auction, and dinner, we are pleased to offer the very popular Pepperdine Wave Classic Golf Clinic led by women's golf team coach Laurie Gibbs. This event is held for non-tournament participants who prefer a more instructional experience. Please visit the tournament Web site at seaver.pepperdine.edu/waveclassic for more details, and complete the Invitation Response Form there to confirm your participation.

We will again follow tradition and host the tournament at the stunning Sherwood Country Club, home to the prestigious Tiger Woods Chevron World Challenge Golf Tournament. Sherwood Country Club never fails to provide exceptional course conditions, making it one of the most enjoyable golf experiences in Southern California!

An exciting day of golf and fellowship is in store for this year's Pepperdine Wave Classic. If you have any questions regarding sponsorship opportunities, please do not hesitate to call Kim Barkis at (310) 506-6110.

On behalf of our tournament hosts, the Seaver Parents Council and the Seaver Board of Visitors, we thank you for your support of Pepperdine University students and we look forward to celebrating our 11th year with you on November 9, 2009. For more information click here.

Seaver Parents Council Outreach Events

Several outreach events took place this past year including two afternoon teas held for moms and families of Pepperdine students and alumna of Seaver College. These events, one in Denver and one in Houston, were the perfect way for families to share about the Pepperdine experience, and get to know others from their area. Special thanks to Amy Clark, Tamra Farah, Betsy Joyce and Sherri Samuels for hosting the Denver afternoon tea! Special thanks to Lorie Addison for hosting our Houston group! If you would like to organize a special event in your hometown, please contact the Seaver Parents Program at (310) 506-4617 or

In addition, Seaver College parents are always welcome at any alumni events taking place throughout the nation. Visit the alumni news and events page to see the latest.

Summer Send-off Parties

The Seaver Parents Program is looking for current parents, alumni, and friends to host summer send-off parties in 2010! Many of you probably remember the feeling of sending your son or daughter off to Pepperdine for their freshman year of college--it can be nerve-wracking, stressful and emotional for many families. Through the summer send-off parties, we strive to alleviate some of these feelings by gathering students together prior to their departure from Pepperdine. We have found that it helps to know a few familiar faces from a student's own hometown before coming to college in August.

Event Details:

Malibu Campus

Stauffer Chapel, and various prayer locations
• Welcome and Worship
• Devotional
• Gather in prayer groups for intercessory prayer and prayers of thanksgiving
• Take a prayer walk

Other Locations
For those of you further afield, we invite you to gather in groups off campus according to your location. Please prayerfully consider hosting a regional prayer site in your home. We know this is a wonderful opportunity for Seaver College parents to enjoy one another's fellowship.

Whether you pray on your own, in a group with other parents, or with us on campus, your presence is wanted and encouraged. We know you will be blessed by the time you invest in our parents day of prayer.

Father of Love, help these young adults grow in gratitude to you. Help them to find you in their busy lives. Help us to affirm them and support them with love, that they might recognize authentic faith and love, and turn to you in their time of need.

Look for the 2010 dates soon.
