Greetings to all Seaver Parents!
As the Parents Program reflects back on this past semester, we are
overjoyed with the number of parent volunteers who gave of their
time to help represent Pepperdine at several events. Below you will
see a summary of the many activities that took place this year. We
encourage you to take part in something happening in your own
hometown this year--whether it is an afternoon tea with fellow
moms, an admissions event, or an alumni event--you are all part of
the Pepperdine family, and for that we are so grateful.
Admission Information Sessions
Dozens of Seaver Parents Council members came ready and willing
to help support Pepperdine’s Office of Admission as they hosted
annual information sessions in 18 cities across America. The Office
of Admission depends on current parents and alumni to spread the
word about their own experiences at Pepperdine and give prospective
students and parents a bit of insight into the University. Our
Seaver parent volunteers from the Outreach Committee did a wonderful
job welcoming and introducing the prospective students and their
families in their area into the Pepperdine family. We would like to
extend our sincere thanks to each parent that played such an
important role in these sessions.

Family Weekend
A
great time was had by all involved at our 19th annual Family Weekend
held October 12-14, 2007. 2007's attendance was the
highest yet, with over 600 parents, grandparents and students on campus.
The weekend included fun for the entire family, including the
President's reception on Friday evening, a nature walk on Saturday,
and several athletic and Center for the Arts events sprinkled
throughout the weekend. Thanks to
all of the members of the Ambassador Committee that helped meet and
greet at registration on Friday and at the Seaver Parents
Council-sponsored breakfast on Saturday.
Save the date for Family Weekend 2008 to be held October 17-19!

Wave Classic Golf Tournament
From
the moment the sun rose over the hills of Sherwood Country Club, the
conditions could not have been better for a wonderful day of golf on
the Sherwood course. As the golfers made their way into the club and
onto the course, our dedicated volunteers were ready to greet them
and welcome them to the 9th annual Wave Classic golf tournament.
The 9th annual Wave Classic golf
tournament was a great success! Golfers enjoyed playing with current
members of the men’s and women’s golf teams and their respective
coaches John Geiberger and Laurie Gibbs. They also had the chance to
play with golf team alumnus and famed long driver Jeff Farley. The
day concluded with a delicious dinner and wonderful program about
Seaver College and an exciting auction. We are still waiting to
total the proceeds, but our estimates show that we have raised over
$180,000 for Seaver College! This was certainly a day to remember
for all involved! The Seaver Parents Council showed an enormous
amount of support for this fundraiser. Our appreciation is extended
to our amazing parent volunteers who supported the event by helping
at the course.
Special thanks to: John Laubacher, Patti Yomantas, Caroline

Several outreach events took place this
past year including two afternoon teas held for moms and families of
Pepperdine students and alumna of Seaver College. These events, one
in Denver and one in Houston, were the perfect way for families to
share about the Pepperdine experience, and get to know others from
their area. Special thanks to Amy Clark, Tamra Farah, Betsy Joyce
and Sherri Samuels for hosting the Denver afternoon tea! Special
thanks to Lorie Addison for hosting our Houston group! If you would
like to organize a special event in your hometown, please contact
the Seaver Parents Program at (310) 506-4617 or
parentsprogram@pepperdine.edu.
In addition, Seaver College parents are always
welcome at any alumni events taking place throughout the nation.

The Seaver Parents Program is still looking
for current parents, alumni, and friends to host summer send-off
parties in 2008! Many of you probably remember the feeling of
sending your son or daughter off to Pepperdine for their freshman
year of college--it can be nerve-wracking, stressful and emotional
for many families. Through the summer send-off parties, we strive to
alleviate some of these feelings by gathering students together
prior to their departure from Pepperdine. We have found that it
helps to know a few familiar faces from a student's own hometown
before coming to college in August.
