Here are some questions frequently asked by parents.

When should the Health History Form be submitted?

The Health History Form, immunization compliance, and other required forms must be uploaded to the student's Patient Portal by the deadline posted on the New Student Checklist

 Is Meningitis a required vaccination?

Yes!

What is most frequently overlooked on the Health History form?

Many students do not answer the 5 questions at the top of page two on the health form, and many do not enter the immunization dates into their medical system immunization section.

What are the hours of the SHC?

The Student Health Center is open Monday-Friday from 8 AM-5 PM*.

*Operating hours are subject to change. Visit our About Us webpage for the most current information.

What happens if my child is sick in the evening or on the weekend?

If you think you are experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital. If safe to do so, then call the Department of Public Safety at 310.506.4441.

After-Hours Care

Our team understands care may be required outside of the Student Health Center's operating hours. View a list of local emergency rooms and urgent care centers.

What is the scope of practice at the Student Health Center?

The SHC operates similarly to a family physician's office providing low-cost health services to any enrolled Pepperdine student, regardless of insurance type, and demonstrates the latest in health standards, allowing students to acquire care from highly trained medical professionals right here on campus. Available services include a wide range of everyday health needs, including men's and women's health, care for illness and injury, immunizations, injections, labs, nutrition, respiratory problems, and dermatology. The SHC also offers specialized clinics such as flu vaccination, travel medicine, massage therapy, and STI testing. If deemed appropriate, physicians may provide a referral to a specialist or determine if a higher level of care is required.

What is the cost to use the Student Health Center?

We keep our fees at a low cost. Your child will be provided with a walk-out statement to submit to their insurance company for possible reimbursement or application toward the deductible.

Can my child continue with previously established medical care while attending Pepperdine?

Most medical care can be continued while your child is attending school. A summary of the medical problems with recommendations from the private MD or specialist is necessary for continuity of care. Sometimes it may be necessary to refer to a specialist in our area depending on the medical issues. We keep an updated referral system for specialists in our area. Our nursing staff can provide services for your private doctor such as administering allergy shots and drawing blood as requested. What is needed for this service is the health records and a written request. Lab results can be faxed directly to the private doctor from our lab.

What if my child needs a prescription?

We have a small dispensary in our Center, and there are two pharmacies in the local community for students with a prescription co-pay:
CVS Pharmacy, (310) 456-9645
Super Care Pharmacy, (310) 456-9059
