Students Share Fun and Frights with President Benton at Brock House Camp Out

Looking out over the Pacific Ocean, under the Malibu stars, approximately 60 Pepperdine students enjoyed the company of their President, Andrew K. Benton, for a Friday, Nov. 13 camp out. more


Science and Religion History Expert Ronald Numbers Presents "Antievolutionism in America"

Ronald Numbers is an eminent figure in the history of science and religion, as well as an authority on the historical significance of creationism and creation science. On Thursday, Nov. 19, he will come to Pepperdine University to present "Antievolutionism in America" at 7 p.m., in Malibu's Elkins Auditorium. Numbers' lecture will continue the 2009-10 W. David Baird Distinguished Lecture Series at Seaver College. more


Pro Bono Law Clerk to Speak in Hunger and Homelessness Speaker Series

The Public Counsel of Los Angeles is the largest pro bono public interest law firm in the world. Al Sturgeon, a law clerk program volunteer with Public Counsel of LA, will speak to Pepperdine students as part of the Hunger and Homelessness Speaker Series from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, in Plaza Classroom 188. more


Dyron Daughrity Presents Seaver Faculty Colloquium Exploring Trends in Global Christianity

Daughrity's research has taken him all over the globe, most recently to Armenia in the former Soviet Union. On Thursday, Nov. 19, he will present his findings in a colloquium titled, "From Sect to Secularization: How Christianity Became the Largest Faith on Earth." The event will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Kresge Reading Room of Malibu's Payson Library, as part of the Seaver Faculty Colloquium series. more


Pepperdine Honors Native American Heritage Month

To commemorate Native American Heritage Month, Pepperdine University will host celebrated Native American actor and physician Evan Adams, followed by a Native American Heritage Chapel service. Both events will honor Native American culture, history, and traditions reflect within the community and the wider population. more


Natural Science Seminar Presents "FDA: Opportunities and Challenges" with Stuart Russell

The Seaver College Natural Science Division continues its weekly lunchtime seminar series with a lecture by Stuart Russell, consumer safety officer for the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Russell will present his lecture, "FDA: Opportunities and Challenges" at 12 noon on Wednesday, Nov. 18, in room 130 of the Keck Science Center on the Malibu campus. more


Pepperdine Presents Screening of The Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good

A new documentary focusing on the travels of The Lt. Dan Band will be pre-screened prior to general release for Pepperdine students on Monday, Nov. 16, in Elkins Auditorium, Malibu. Hosted by the Center for Entertainment, Media, and Culture (CEMC) at Pepperdine, the film, Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good, begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by a Q&A with star Gary Sinise, director Jonathan Flora, and producer Jay Hoffman. more


Waves Men's and Women's Basketball Teams Host Season Openers

The Pepperdine men's and women's basketball teams begin the 2009-10 season of play with home openers on Friday, Nov. 13. The women's team will host Northern Arizona at 5 p.m., followed by the men's squad will take on Pacific at 7:30 p.m., both in the Firestone Fieldhouse. more


The Fine Arts Division Presents Fall Musical, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Intercultural Affairs Presents Film Screening of Oversold and Interview with Star

The Office of Intercultural Affairs (ICA) at Pepperdine University will screen the Christian film, Oversold, and host a discussion of the film with leading actress Crissy Moran, writer Dave Cowan, and producer Paul Morrell. Former adult entertainment star Moran will also be interviewed about her religious conversion and exodus from the sex industry following the screening, which begins at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, in Malibu's Elkins Auditorium. more


Pepperdine Hosts 10th Annual Veteran's Day Public Ceremony

Pepperdine University, in partnership with the Malibu Chamber of Commerce and the City of Malibu, will host a stirring tribute to America's Veterans on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Heroes Garden on the Drescher Graduate campus. The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which will mark its 10th year of honoring veterans. more


Pepperdine Screens 'The Stoning of Soraya M.' with Cast and Crew

The Center for Entertainment, Media, and Culture at Pepperdine University is hosting a screening of 'The Stoning of Soraya M.,' a drama about human rights abuses in Iran, set to hit theatres in late 2009. The screening will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9 in Elkins Auditorium on the Malibu campus, and will be followed by a panel discussion with director Cyrus Nowrasteh, producers Steve McEveety and John Shepherd, and the stars of the film, Mozhan Marno and Navid Negahban. more


Author and Alum Leslie Landis Explores the Art of Overeating

Leslie Landis finds humor in the battle between two American extremes: a national obsession with both calorie counting and self-indulgence. On Thursday, Nov. 5, the Pepperdine Libraries and Graduate School for Education and Psychology (GSEP) will host an interview and book signing with Landis as she talks about her new book, The Art of Overeating: A Bellyful of Laughs About Our Food Phobic Culture. The event begins at 4 p.m., in Payson Library on the Malibu campus. more


Natural Science Seminar Presents Research on Noise and Amphibian Decline

Amphibians, like frogs, toads, salamanders, and small worm-like creatures called caecilians are declining, all around the globe. In fact, they are the most endangered group of vertebrates on the planet--over one-third of all amphibians are threatened with extinction. The reasons remain undetermined, but noise may be a factor. more


MFA in Screen and Television Writing Club, Courier 12, Hosts Writer Dean Batali

The master of fine arts (MFA) program in Screen and Television Writing at Seaver College will host Dean Batali, a writer for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and executive producer of That 70's Show. He will share his experience as a Christian in a Hollywood writers' room on Wednesday, November 4, at 7:00 p.m., in room 140 of the Malibu campus Center for Communication and Business. more
