A lecture series accompanying Pepperdine Libraries' exhibition, Manifold Greatness, will kick off Thursday, Aug. 30, with a presentation titled "The King James Bible and Early English Biblical Translations" by Cyndia Clegg, Distinguished Professor of English at Pepperdine. Clegg's lecture will begin at 4 p.m. in Payson Library, Malibu.
Manifold Greatness: The Creation and Afterlife of the King James Bible is a traveling exhibition on display in Payson Library until Friday, Sept. 21. The exhibition celebrates 400 years since the first printing of the historic King James Bible, and contains high-quality reproductions of rare and historic books, manuscripts, and works of art from the Folger Shakespeare Library and the Bodleian Library collections, combined with interpretive text and related images.
In addition, Pepperdine Libraries will host a number of events in connection with the exhibition, including five lectures and a film screening, all free and open to the public. Click here for more information about the exhibition and the accompanying events.
Clegg teaches courses in World Heritage, and Shakespeare and English Renaissance Literature at Pepperdine, and has extensively explored British and Irish literature throughout her academic career. She has received a British Academy Fellowship numerous times over the years. Her work extends to religion in literature, and in July 2011 she presented a lecture titled, "Hospitable Metaphor and the Relationship Between Religion and Literature," at a conference in London titled, "The Hospitable Text: New Approaches to Religion and Literature."
