In a bid to preserve local historic and artistic treasures, the libraries at Pepperdine University have joined forces with the Adamson House and Malibu Lagoon Museum to establish the Malibu Historical Collection at the Pepperdine University Libraries. On Sunday, June 14, the Pepperdine Libraries will host an Adamson House docent training session featuring retired professor William Clark, who will give a lecture and slideshow presentation about the partnership. The event will begin at 2 p.m., in the Kresge Reading Room of Payson Library, on the Malibu Campus.
Clark's talk, "Treasures of the Malibu Museum Archives," will explore the content he has discovered within the Museum's archives. Clark has spent the last six months processing these materials for future use. The presentation will also touch on how Pepperdine will help electronically organize the documents and artifacts through the digital repository currently being developed by the university libraries. Clark will discuss how the digital archives can make previously endangered materials publicly accessible to scholars and community members, in a move that will provide access to a content that has, until now, been unavailable.
The Malibu Historical Collection has been established to preserve the history of Malibu, and to tell the story of its heritage and people. The collection will include a repository of papers, videos, oral histories, books, photos, and artifacts for the enjoyment of all generations and to enrich the Malibu experience for scholars and visitors.
The Pepperdine Libraries will display collection highlights on the Malibu campus through a series of rotating exhibitions. For more information about Clark's lecture or the Collection, contact Amy Hunter at (310) 506-6785, or visit the Pepperdine Libraries Web site.
