Excavation

With considerable regret, ISAR found it necessary to cancel the 2004 season of excavations at Banias. After consulting with all the consortium institutions, we concluded that the present unstable situation in the Middle East made it difficulty to carry on our work this year. We plan to resume the excavation next season, however. For information regarding the 2004 excavation season at Banias, please contact Robert R. Cargill at (310) 506-6512.

The Banias Expedition: A Joint Project of the Israel Antiquities Authority and Pepperdine University

Another season of successful excavation was completed at Banias on Thursday, June 15, 2000. A consortium of American colleges and universities, led by Pepperdine, participated in this expedition. These included Averett College, Southwest Missouri State University, Hardin-Simmons University, Howard Payne University, and Concordia Seminary (Indiana). Greek students from Athens also participated. The excavation concentrated on further exposure of the great "palace" in central Banias.
