Gamma Kappa Alpha, National Italian Honor Society

The Gamma Kappa Alpha National Italian Honor Society is a society formed to acknowledge superior scholastic performance in the field of Italian language, literature and culture, and is open to membership at institutions of higher learning in the United States and Canada.
The society encourages college students to acquire a greater interest in, and a deeper understanding of, Italian culture, art and history.
The organization recognizes outstanding undergraduate scholarship in the field of Italian by awarding annually the Gamma Kappa Alpha Award for Scholarship.

Requirements for Membership:

Membership is open to all seniors and juniors at Pepperdine University who meet the following criteria:
• Completion of at least one advanced Italian course (i.e. 300- or 400- level courses).
• Completion of (or current enrollment in) at least one 400-level Italian course.
• B average or better in all Italian courses.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of B (3.00).

Sigma Delta Pi, National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica)

The purposes of this society are: To honor those who attain excellence in the study of the Spanish language and in the study of the literature and culture of the Spanish-speaking peoples; To honor those who have made the Hispanic contributions to modern culture better known in the English-speaking world; To encourage college and university students to acquire a greater interest in and a deeper understanding of Hispanic culture; To foster friendly relations and mutual respect between the nations of Hispanic speech and those of English speech; To serve its membership in ways which will contribute to the attainment of the goals and ideals of the society.

Requirements for Membership:

  1. Enrollment in or completion of upper division Hispanic Literature or
  2. Minimum GPA in college level Spanish courses of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  3. Cumulative GPA minimum of 2.75

The National Collegiate French Honor Society, Pi Delta Phi

The purpose of this society shall be (1) to recognize outstanding scholarship in the French language and its literature; (2) to increase the knowledge and appreciation of Americans for the cultural contributions of the French-speaking world; (3) to stimulate and encourage French cultural activities.

Regular membership includes graduate and undergraduate students who shall be nominated in recognition of their academic achievement in at least one semester of upper division French. They shall have completed at least three semesters or five quarters of the college course with a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale in French courses and rank in the top 35% of their class.

Delta Phi Alpha, National German Honorary Society

The National German Honorary Society, Delta Phi Alpha, seeks to recognize excellence in the study of German and provide a higher incentive for higher scholarship. The society aims to promote the study of the German language, literature, and civilization and endeavors to emphasize those aspects of German life and culture which are of universal value and which contribute to man's eternal search for peace and truth.

Requirements for membership:

  1. Two years of college-level German OR an extended stay in a German-speaking country along with a score of 650 on the Placement Test
  2. Enrollment in or completion of an advanced-level (300,400) course
  3. Minimum GPA of 3.3 in all German courses
  4. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7
  5. Payment of $35 membership fee (one-time)
  6. A continuing interest in the German language, literature, and culture

Sigma Iota Rho, INTS, Pepperdine University

The purpose of Sigma Iota Rho is to acknowledge the scholastic achievement of Pepperdine University's students, while providing them with a network in which to interact with other International Studies majors, faculty, and industry leaders. The organization is open to any Pepperdine University student as long as he/she abides by the chapter's constitution and upholds Pepperdine University Seaver College's Moral Code of Ethics.
