About Modern Languages

The objectives of the Modern Languages department include assisting students in developing an awareness of the importance of language as a means of communication, enhancing oral and written communication in languages other than English, developing an appreciation of various cultures, and understanding better the culture of the United States from a foreign perspective.

We strongly encourage students interested in studying French, German, Italian, or Spanish to attend one of Seaver College's International Programs in Lausanne, Switzerland, Heidelberg, Germany, Florence, Italy, Buenos Aires, Argentina, or Madrid, Spain. More complete information may be found on the International Programs Web site.

Students desiring instruction in Asian languages may take courses in Mandarin Chinese and Japanese through the Asian Studies program. At this time there is no major or minor in either language, but there is an International Program in Shanghai, China.

We also offer courses in Arabic.

Students interested in studying the Biblical languages of Greek and Hebrew should consult the Religion Division Web site for details on course offerings.
