Spring Semester in Chiang Mai, Thailand: Course Offerings

THAILAND HOME-STAY PROGRAM

SPRING 2009

Chiang Mai University
3 Classes are taught by Dr. Michael R. Leming and faculty from Chiang Mai University, where classes meet January – March.

Educational Field Trip
Students will travel to the cities of Lampang, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Ayutthaya, Bangkok, and Pattaya in Thailand, followed by a 1 week Spring break at the end of March.

Karen Tribal Village
For the month of April, students will live in a Karen tribal village in the foothills of the Himalayas where they will complete an anthropological course on the Karen of Northern Thailand.

Students will register for their Spring Thailand courses online in November during Spring 2009 registration. Please check your Pepperdine email for your exact registration time; and the International Programs website http://seaver.pepperdine.edu/internationalprograms/ in November for the course call numbers.

General Requirements: While studying in the Thailand Program all students must enroll in all the courses listed below:

Cost: Flat-rate tuition is identical to that in Malibu.  Additionally, the International Programs Fee covers room and board charges equivalent to those in Malibu, round-trip airfare, the educational field trip, and other extra events and excursions.  Students live in homestays with Thai families while studying at Chiang Mai University, in hotels during the educational field trip, and in a Christian hostel with the opportunity for short homestays during their time in the Karen village.

All courses offered depend upon the availability of qualified faculty and other program activities depend upon qualified personnel. The University contracts with scheduled air carriers and local operators and travel dates may be changed in the case of armed conflict, terrorist activity, natural disasters, strikes, or other unforeseen circumstances. The International Programs Student Center will always have the latest information concerning these programs.
