LAUSANNE RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM
FALL and SPRING 2008-2009

Prerequisite: Students must complete FRE 151 or its equivalent by the end of the Spring 2007 semester to participate. Students participating in the Spring Only 2008 semester must complete FRE 151 by the end of the Fall 2007 semester. The prerequisite for all 300-level FRE courses is 252. The prerequisite for all 400-level FRE courses is the successful completion of one 300-level FRE course.  Students must meet all prerequisite requirements for each course they intend on taking overseas. Waivers cannot be issued for students to take courses without meeting prerequisite requirements. No exceptions will be made. General Requirements: While studying in the Lausanne Program all students must enroll in 12-18 units including a French course each semester for a letter grade.

Students will register for their Fall Lausanne courses online in March during Fall 2008 registration. Students will register for their Spring Lausanne courses online in November during Spring 2009 registration. Please check your Pepperdine email for your exact registration time; and the International Programs website http://seaver.pepperdine.edu/internationalprograms/ in March and November for the course call numbers.

Purchase your textbooks before you go overseas. 
Students are expected to have textbooks the first day of class.  Textbooks will be available at the Pepperdine bookstore in Malibu.

Students who participate in both the Fall and Spring Semesters of this program can take the following to complete their Foreign Language General Education Requirement:
• FRE 182 Intensive French I, fall (5) and FRE 282 Intensive French II, spring (5)

• HUM 295 – The International Experience (0-1) CR/NC grading only.  An optional course designed to maximize the student's international experience by providing opportunities to engage more fully with the culture and to reflect more carefully on the experience.

FRE 152 – Elementary French II (4)  Prerequisite: FRE 151

• FRE 251 – Second Year French I (4) (GE) Prerequisite: FRE 152

•FRE 252 – Second Year French II (4)  Prerequisite: FRE 251

SOC 200 – Introduction to Sociology (3) (GE Human Institutions)

• HIST 304 – History of the American Peoples (4)  (American Experience GE) Prerequisite: POSC 104

• NASC 108 – Introduction to Geology (4) (Lab Science GE)

• HIST 390 – History of the Modern Middle East (4) (Non Western Cultures GE)

• REL 301 – Christianity and Culture (3) (GE Religion) Prerequisite: REL 101 or 102

• PE 191 – Individual Exercise (1) Enjoy cycling, hiking, and other healthy activities.  CR/NC grading only. Requires the payment of an extra fee.

FALL ONLY

• FRE 182 - Intensive French I (5) The first of the two-course sequence equivalent to FRE 152, 251, and 252. Open only to students who study in Lausanne both semesters. Prerequisite: FRE 151

• FRE 282 - Intensive French II (5) (GE) The second of the two-course sequence equivalent to FRE 152,251, and 252.  Open only to students who study in Lausanne both semesters.  Prerequisite: FRE 182.

HUM 313 – Western Heritage III (3) (GE) Prerequisite: HUM 212

• REL 301 – Christianity and Culture (3) (GE Religion) Prerequisite: REL 101 or 102

•EDUC 351/PSYC 322 – Child Growth and Development (4)

A spring semester educational field trip is part of this program.

Cost: Flat-rate tuition (12-18 units) is identical to that in Malibu. Additionally, the International Programs Fee covers room and board charges equivalent to those in Malibu, round-trip airfare, the educational field trip, and other extra events and excursions. Students live in the Pepperdine facility.

Classes normally meet 4 days a week. A long weekend for travel will be scheduled in the Fall semester.

All courses offered depend upon the availability of qualified faculty and other program activities depend upon qualified personnel. The University contracts with scheduled air carriers and local operators and travel dates may be changed in the case of armed conflict, terrorist activity, natural disasters, strikes, or other unforeseen circumstances. The International Programs Office will always have the latest information concerning these programs.
