SHANGHAI SUMMER PROGRAM
Block I: May 5 – June 5, 2009

Prerequisites: 2.3 minimum GPA and 30 units by the end of Spring 09. Students must meet all prerequisite requirements for each course they intend on taking overseas. Waivers cannot be issued for students to take courses without meeting prerequisite requirements. No exceptions will be made. Registration:
Students will register for their Summer IP courses online in Spring after their contract signing. Summer course call numbers can be found on the 'Summer Class Schedule - International Programs - PDF' link at the following website: http://seaver.pepperdine.edu/academics/schedule/. Please contact nichole.skelton@pepperdine.edu if you have any registration questions.
Academic Program: Students may attend either Block I or Block II, or students may attend both Block I and II. The minimum number of units is 4 and the maximum is 9 units each block. If a student has completed or is in the process of completing their GE Language Requirement in another language, the student must enroll in CHIN 121 course. If a student has already taken CHIN 151 course or higher, they are not allowed to take CHIN 121 and must enroll in the appropriate level of that language.

Textbooks:
Purchase your textbooks before you go overseas. Students are expected to have textbooks the first day of class. Textbooks will be available at the Pepperdine bookstore in Malibu.
Location: Students live in the Pepperdine owned Shanghai Jia, meaning house. The Pepperdine facility is located in the French Concession area of Shanghai near the American Consulate. The facility houses students, the Visiting Faculty family, classrooms, a library, computer laboratory, student center, laundry facilities, and offices for the program.
Travel: Round-trip travel between LAX and Shanghai on a group-flight is included in the program fee. Weekend excursions are also included as a part of the program.
Meals: Most meals will be provided. Meals while traveling on weekends will be the responsibility of the student.
Personnel: The Visiting Faculty member will be Professor Roy Alder. Pepperdine local adjunct faculty members will teach the other courses.
Cost: The tuition cost is $1,135 per unit, and each student must take a minimum of 4 units each block. The International Programs Charge for Block I is $4,350 and for Block II is $3,940. For students attending both blocks the International Programs Charge is $7,290. The International Programs Charge covers orientations, airfare and transfers to and from airports, educational field excursions, room, most meals, and other program extras. Textbooks and personal costs, such as individual weekend travel, are not included. Financial Aid is available for eligible students. * Schedules depend upon airline space availabilities and may be changed. All courses and other program activities offered are dependent upon availability of faculty who teach these courses. The University contracts with scheduled air carriers and local operators and travel dates may be changed in the case of armed conflict, terrorist activity, natural disasters, strikes, or other unforeseen circumstances. The International Programs Office will always have the latest information concerning these programs.
