MADRID UPPER DIVISION SPANISH PROGRAM

Prerequisites:
2.3 minimum GPA and 30 units by the end of Spring 09. Students must meet all prerequisite requirements for each course they intend on taking overseas. Waivers cannot be issued for students to take courses without meeting prerequisite requirements. No exceptions will be made. Registration:
Students will register for their Summer IP courses online in Spring after their contract signing. Academic Program: Students must enroll for a minimum of 8 units and maximum of 12 units. This Program meets the intensive language immersion requirement for the Spanish major. All program participants take a language pledge to speak only Spanish at all times. Classes will meet at the University of Nebrija.

Textbooks:
Students will purchase one textbook for SPAN 390 before going overseas. This book will be available at the Pepperdine bookstore in Malibu.

All other textbooks for SPAN 350 and SPAN 455 will be purchased overseas. Students are expected to have textbooks the first day of class.
Travel: There will be a weekend Educational Field Trip to Barcelona as well as excursions to places of academic and historical interest in Spain such as Segovia, Sevilla, and Toledo.
Housing and Meals: Students will live in the houses of carefully chosen families throughout the city of Madrid. Students will be provided two meals per day by their host families and there will be a weekly group meal. They will receive an allowance for their third meal on class days. Other meals, including meals while traveling on weekends, will be the responsibility of the student.
Personnel: The Visiting Faculty Member will be Professor Paul Begin. Local adjunct faculty will teach other courses.
Cost: The tuition cost is $1,135 per unit, and each student must take a minimum of 8 units. The International Programs Charge of $7,800 covers orientations, airfare and transfers to and from airports, educational field excursions, room, most meals, and other program extras. Textbooks and personal costs, such as individual weekend travel, are not included. Financial Aid is available for eligible students. * Schedules depend upon airline space availabilities and may be changed. All courses and other program activities offered are dependent upon availability of faculty who teach these courses. The University contracts with scheduled air carriers and local operators and travel dates may be changed in the case of armed conflict, terrorist activity, natural disasters, strikes, or other unforeseen circumstances.
