Heidelberg Summer Program

 

Heidelberg Humanities
May 13 - June17, 2008

Prerequisites: 2.3 minimum GPA and 30 units by the end of Spring 2008.  The prerequisite for all 300-level GER courses is 252. The prerequisite for all 400-level GER courses is the successful completion of one 300-level GER course.  Students must meet all prerequisite requirements for each course they intend on taking overseas. Waivers cannot be issued for students to take courses without meeting prerequisite requirements. No exceptions will be made. Academic Program:
Students must enroll in a minimum of 6 units. Students will register for their Summer IP courses online in Spring after their contract signing. Please check the IP website for the course call numbers.

Purchase your textbooks before you go overseas. 
Students are expected to have textbooks the first day of class.  Textbooks will be available in the Pepperdine bookstore.

HUM 295 – The International Experience (0-1) CR/NC grading only. An optional course designed to maximize the student's international experience by providing opportunities to engage more fully with the culture and to reflect more carefully on the experience.
PE 196 - Weight Training (1) CR/NC grading only. Extra fee required

Location: Students will stay at the historic, University-owned Moore Haus, located adjacent to Heidelberg's famous castle. Classrooms are located in the center of the city's historic district, but a short walk from Moore Haus.

Travel: Round-trip travel between LAX and Heidelberg on a group-flight is included in the program fee. Instead of an Educational Field Trip, students will be given a Eurail pass to see the sites they study in their Humanities courses.

Meals: Most meals will be provided. Breakfast is available in Moore Haus each morning. Evening meals are served at a local restaurant Sunday through Thursday evenings. There is a small student kitchen available in Moore Haus. Meals while traveling on weekends will be the responsibility of the student.

Personnel: The Visiting Faculty member will be Henry Price. Long-term Pepperdine local full-time and adjunct faculty members will teach the other courses.

Cost: The tuition cost is $1,070 per unit, and each student must take a minimum of 6 units for a minimum. The International Programs Charge of $4,900 covers orientations, airfare and transfers to and from airports, room, most meals, and other program extras. Textbooks and personal costs, such as individual weekend travel, are not included. Financial Aid is available for eligible students. * Schedules depend upon airline space availabilities and may be changed. All courses and other program activities offered are dependent upon availability of faculty who teach these courses. The University contracts with scheduled air carriers and local operators and travel dates may be changed in the case of armed conflict, terrorist activity, natural disasters, strikes, or other unforeseen circumstances. The International Programs Office will always have the latest information concerning these programs.
