Summer Special Interest Programs: Heidelberg Music

 

Heidelberg Music

Prerequisites: 2.3 minimum GPA and 30 units by the end of Spring 09.  Students must meet all prerequisite requirements for each course they intend on taking overseas. Waivers cannot be issued for students to take courses without meeting prerequisite requirements. No exceptions will be made. Registration:
Students will register for their Summer IP courses online in Spring after their contract signing. Summer course call numbers can be found on the ‘Summer Class Schedule - International Programs - PDF’ link at the following website: http://seaver.pepperdine.edu/academics/schedule/. Please contact nichole.skelton@pepperdine.edu if you have any registration questions.

Academic Program: Students must take a minimum of 8 units and a maximum of 10 units that include a German course and either Opera Workshop or Chamber Music.  If a student has completed or is in the process of completing their GE Language Requirement in another language, the student must enroll in GER 121. If a student has already taken GER 151 or higher, they are not allowed to take GER 121 and must enroll in the appropriate level of that language. If a student has already taken GER 121, they must enroll in GER 292.

Textbooks: 
Purchase your textbooks before you go overseas. Students are expected to have textbooks the first day of class.  Textbooks will be available at the Pepperdine bookstore in Malibu.

Location: Students will stay at the historic, University-owned Moore Haus, located adjacent to Heidelberg's famous castle. Classrooms are located in the center of the city's historic district, but a short walk from Moore Haus. An Educational Field Trip will be part of the program.

Travel: Round-trip travel between LAX and Heidelberg on a group-flight is included in the program fee. An Educational Field Trip is also included as a part of the program.

Meals: Most meals will be provided. Breakfast is available in Moore Haus each morning. Evening meals are served at a local restaurant Sunday through Thursday evenings. There is a small student kitchen available in Moore Haus. Meals while traveling on weekends will be the responsibility of the student. 

Personnel: The Visiting Faculty member will be Henry Price. Long-term Pepperdine local full-time and adjunct faculty members will teach the other courses.

Cost: The tuition cost is $1,135 per unit, and each student must take a minimum of 8 units. The International Programs Charge of $6,590 covers orientations, airfare and transfers to and from airports, educational field excursions, room and board, and other program extras. Textbooks and personal costs, such as individual weekend travel, are not included. Financial Aid is available for eligible students. * Schedules depend upon airline space availabilities and may be changed. All courses and other program activities offered are dependent upon availability of faculty who teach these courses. The University contracts with scheduled air carriers and local operators and travel dates may be changed in the case of armed conflict, terrorist activity, natural disasters, strikes, or other unforeseen circumstances. The International Programs Office will always have the latest information concerning these programs.
