Summer Special Interest Programs: Galapagos Islands and Amazon

GALAPAGOS ISLANDS & AMAZON PROGRAM
June 12 - June 30, 2009

Prerequisites: 2.3 minimum GPA and 30 units by the end of Spring 09.  Students must meet all prerequisite requirements for each course they intend on taking overseas. Waivers cannot be issued for students to take courses without meeting prerequisite requirements. No exceptions will be made. Registration:
Students will register for their Summer IP courses online in Spring after their contract signing. Academic Program: Students must enroll in a minimum of 3 units. This field course takes students through the Galapagos Islands and the Amazon as they study Religion and Science. Special attention will be given to the study of amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. The course will include student research projects where students will choose to focus on a specific species of animal and collect data on their behavior, ecology and life-history.

Textbooks: 
Purchase your textbooks before you go overseas. Students are expected to have textbooks the first day of class.  Textbooks will be available at the Pepperdine bookstore in Malibu.

Travel: In this travel-study program students will travel throughout the Galapagos Islands and Amazon.  The Galapagos Islands itinerary is subject to change.  Please check back often for updates.

Housing and Meals: Room and most meals are provided. Students will stay in hotels, student residences, and go camping.

Personnel: The Visiting Faculty members will be Ed Larson and Rodney Honeycutt.

Cost: The tuition cost is $1,135 per unit, and each student must take a minimum of 3 units. An additional International Programs Fee of $5,600 covers orientations, airfare and transfers to and from airports, educational field excursions, room, most meals, and other program extras. Textbooks and personal costs, such as individual weekend travel, are not included. Financial Aid is available for eligible students. * Schedules depend upon airline space availabilities and may be changed. All courses and other program activities offered are dependent upon availability of faculty who teach these courses. The University contracts with scheduled air carriers and local operators and travel dates may be changed in the case of armed conflict, terrorist activity, natural disasters, strikes, or other unforeseen circumstances. The International Programs Office will always have the latest information concerning these programs.
