Summer Special Interest Programs: SACI 

SACI SUMMER PROGRAM
July 4 – August 1, 2009

Prerequisites: 2.3 minimum GPA and 30 units by the end of Spring 09.  Students must meet all prerequisite requirements for each course they intend on taking overseas. Waivers cannot be issued for students to take courses without meeting prerequisite requirements. No exceptions will be made. Please contact Nichole Skelton () in IP with any questions.   

Registration:
Students will register for their Summer IP courses online in Spring after their contract signing. Please contact if you have any registration questions.

Academic Program: Students must enroll in 2 art courses for a total of 6 units. SACI Summer 2009 courses will be available online in 2009. Visit: http://www.saci-florence.org/ .  Students will receive more detailed instructions on the registration process in their Spring orientation. Courses usually offered at SACI include:

Textbooks: Textbooks for this program are purchased overseas.

Location: Students live in Pepperdine University's Villa Tagliaferri and take courses at Studio Arts Center International (SACI) where classes meet Monday – Friday. This historic, University-owned facility in Florence is, literally, within walking distance of the city's world-famous museums and historical sites. The facility houses 54 students, the Visiting Faculty family, classrooms, a library, computer laboratory, student center, laundry facilities, and offices for the program. Florence's main railway station is within walking distance of the villa.

Travel: Round-trip travel between LAX and Florence on a group-flight is included in the program fee. Due to the nature of this special art program, an Educational Field Trip is not included.

Meals: Most meals will be provided. Students will receive an allowance for lunches on class days. Other meals are prepared in a commercial quality kitchen and served in the house. Meals while traveling on weekends will be the responsibility of the student.

Personnel: The Visiting Faculty member will be Professor Joe Piasentin. SACI faculty members will teach other courses.

Cost: The tuition cost is $1,135 per unit, and each student must take a minimum of 6 units. The International Programs Charge is $4,540 and covers orientations, airfare and transfers to and from airports, room, most meals, and other program extras. Textbooks and personal costs, such as individual weekend travel, are not included. Financial Aid is available for eligible students. * Schedules depend upon airline space availabilities and may be changed. All courses and other program activities offered are dependent upon availability of faculty who teach these courses. The University contracts with scheduled air carriers and local operators and travel dates may be changed in the case of armed conflict, terrorist activity, natural disasters, strikes, or other unforeseen circumstances. The International Programs Office will always have the latest information concerning these programs.
