AUSTRALIA PROGRAM
University of Queensland, Brisbane
Sports Medicine Majors and Minors Only
Fall, Spring, or entire Academic Year
The Program: Pepperdine’s International Programs can now
offer qualified Sports Medicine students the opportunity to study
during the academic year at the University of Queensland (UQ) in
Brisbane, Australia. Queensland is a comprehensive
publicly-supported university that is considered by many to be one
of the best universities in Australia. In most cases, students may
select any UQ course so long as course prerequisites have been met
and space is available. The first semester at UQ begins in late
February and lasts until late June and the second semester begins in
mid-July and ends at the end of November.
Location: Brisbane is a city of 1.6 million people located
just north of Australia’s “Gold Coast.” It is served by a major
international airport. Sydney may be reached in about 1 hour, and
Melbourne in 2. The main UQ campus is located near the city’s
dynamic center, on a river and may be reached by water taxi. The
Great Barrier Reef with its unmatched water sports opportunities,
the outback, and the rainforest are nearby. Queensland is the home
to much of Australia’s high-technology industry.
Housing & Meals: A limited number of rooms on campus are
available or students will be assisted in securing local housing
convenient to campus (see
www.accommodation.uq.edu.au). Students are responsible for the
cost of their own meals and transportation to and from campus.
Cost: Tuition is the same as the flat-rate tuition on the
Malibu campus. Students will also be charged for required Australian
health insurance. Students will enroll in Pepperdine, pay Pepperdine
tuition, and be eligible to receive Pepperdine financial aid.
Students will be met at the airport in Brisbane, receive UQ
assistance in finding housing, and have a personal UQ academic
advisor. Air fare, visa, housing, meals, textbooks, and personal
costs are not included.
Other Information: Students who completed their secondary
education in a country in which English was not the native language,
maybe required by law to take an English comprehension test. All
students will require visas.
Application: Students must have completed at least 30
units to apply, as well as have a minimum 3.0 GPA. The Spring 2008
application deadline is 15 October 2007. The Fall 2008 application
deadline is 15 February 2008. Visit the International Programs Office
for more information.
* Please consult with an International Programs staff member
for the most current information. All courses and other program
activities offered are dependent upon the availability of faculty
who will teach these courses. All courses are taught by University
of Queensland faculty. The University contracts with scheduled air
carriers and local operators. Travel dates may be changed in the
case of armed conflict, terrorist activity, natural disasters,
strikes, or other emergencies. The International Programs Office
will always have the latest information concerning these programs
available.
